iPhone 12 Pro facing quality control issues, could cause delays

A silver iPhone 12 with a large display and three rear cameras is shown. The screen displays various app icons such as FaceTime, Photos, Mail, Clock, and Maps. The time is 12:09, and the date is Sunday, the 16th. Despite COVID-19 delays in production, the Apple logo is proudly visible on the back.

New quality control issues could mean that the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max are delayed, according to a new report from reliable Apple insider Ming-Chi Kuo.

According Kuo, one manufacturer has had difficulties in creating the camera lenses for the new iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max, with the coatings on the lenses cracking.

It’s the second time that a quality control issue has been reported for the new iPhone 12 models after BOE reportedly had difficulties producing the OLED displays for the new smartphones.

Now, the cracked coatings on camera lenses could cause potential delays to its release.

The iPhone 12 launch has already reportedly been pushed back this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, and now Genius Electronic Optical is struggling to manufacture the coatings on the camera lens.

Ming-Chi Kuo suggests that the cracked coatings were found on the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Max, and found the fault through high humidity testing.

Although this is only a small manufacturing issue, it must be corrected before the device goes on sale in September or October. Kuo remains optimistic, suggesting that the issue won’t add to the already-delayed timeline of the new iPhones, because Genius Electronic Optical is only one supplier.

It could be that Apple leans more on another supplier instead.

It has widely been reported that the iPhone 12 will be announced and released in October of this year due to the coronavirus pandemic causing supply chain and manufacturing issues, but we won’t know for sure until Apple confirms its September (or October) event soon.
