A typically reliable source of Apple-related rumors has taken to Twitter to share news of the iPhone 14 Pro models incorporating a pill-shaped camera cutout at the top of their display, with the notch removed. The Face ID hardware will apparently be relocated under the display in order to accommodate this change.
Rumors about Face ID moving under the display have been circulating for some time, thanks to display industry consultant Ross Young, a reliable source of display-related information for upcoming Apple products.
In a tweet, leaker @dylandkt said he had been assured that the reliability of Face ID would not be adversely impacted by the under-display change.
While there have been suggestions in the past that the iPhone 14 Pro models won’t have a notch, this is the first time a pill-shaped camera cutout at the top of the screen has been mooted. Original rumors had suggested a circular hole-punch cutout would be used.
Right now, there is speculation that Apple is planning a 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro and a 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max, due for release during September this year. We can also probably expect a 6.1-inch iPhone 14 and a 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max, which it seems will have a notch, meaning the Pro models would be the only ones in the range with a pill-shaped camera cutout.
