iPhone 15 Event to Retain Pre-Recorded Format, Blending In-Person Experience with Digital Precision

Tim Cook

As anticipation mounts for Apple’s annual iPhone unveiling, it has been reported that the company will be sticking to a format that successfully blends live in-person elements with a pre-recorded presentation. This format, pioneered last year, will be reprised for the iPhone 15 event, which seems likely to be on September 12.

Despite hopes that Apple might return to a traditional live presentation on stage, it became evident after the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2023, held online with an in-person component, that this blended approach is now Apple’s preferred event format going forward. This method allows Apple to invite select members of the media, developers, and students to Apple Park to engage in live event activities while also delivering a tightly controlled digital presentation.

Recording its presentations in advance enables Apple to exercise strict control over its announcements, seamlessly integrating digital production effects and slick transitions, and avoiding any potential on-stage mishaps. This level of control ensures a polished and consistent message for one of the technology industry’s most eagerly watched events.

The iPhone 15 event is expected to be packed with announcements, including the introduction of four new iPhone models: the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Alongside the phones, Apple is likely to unveil the Apple Watch Series 9 and a new Apple Watch Ultra. Additional announcements may include final details and launch dates for iOS 17 and other related operating system updates, as well as other surprises.

The decision to maintain this pre-recorded format underlines Apple’s commitment to leveraging digital technology to enhance its product unveilings. While some may long for the spontaneity and excitement of a live stage presentation, Apple’s approach emphasizes precision, innovation, and an understanding of the evolving landscape of media consumption.

The September 12 event is poised to be a landmark moment in Apple’s 2023 calendar, not just for the products unveiled, but also for solidifying a format that may well define the future of major tech announcements.
