Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro Max is set to continue its dominance as the leading iPhone model in sales during the first half of 2024. This forecast comes from renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who detailed these insights in a recent industry note on Medium. Kuo predicts that the iPhone 15 Pro Max will comprise 40–45% of all iPhone 15 shipments in the first half of 2024, a trend that is poised to greatly benefit Taiwanese camera lens supplier Largan.

The iPhone 15 Pro Max stands out in the market, primarily due to its premium status and the largest display among its peers, measuring at 6.7 inches. A notable feature exclusive to this model is the 5x Telephoto zoom, or the “tetraprism” lens, which is absent in the other iPhone models. Kuo anticipates that this distinctive lens will notably boost Largan’s revenue during this period, potentially by $108.8 million to $121.6 million.

Kuo has also shared expectations that the tetraprism lens technology will be extended to both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max later in the year.

This expansion will bring at least a 5x optical zoom and a 25x digital zoom to the Telephoto lens of these upcoming premium models. Furthermore, the iPhone 16 Pro is projected to feature a larger 6.3-inch display, an increase from the 6.1-inch display of the iPhone 15 Pro. This change not only signifies a shift in device size, but also makes room for the integration of a tetraprism lens.

In a move to meet the anticipated demand for this advanced technology, Apple, according to a report by The Elec, plans to incorporate LG Innotek as an additional supplier for the folded zoom module used in these lenses.

This strategy is aimed at ensuring sufficient production yields to accommodate the increased volume of units required for the upcoming iPhone models.
