Both models feature slightly larger screens, with the iPhone 16 Pro sporting a 6.3-inch display and the iPhone 16 Pro Max a 6.9-inch screen, an increase from the 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays on the iPhone 15 Pro models. The phones are once again built with titanium frames and are available in four colors: black, white, natural, and a new shade called desert titanium. Apple also claims that the iPhone 16 Pro Max has the best battery life ever for an iPhone.
At the Heart of the iPhone 16 Pro
At the heart of the new iPhone 16 Pro is the A18 Pro chip, featuring a 16-core Neural Engine and a 6-core GPU, which provides 15% faster performance and 20% faster graphics than the previous A17 Pro. These upgrades enhance the performance of Apple Intelligence features, the company’s AI-driven tools, which are set to be in beta by October. AI is a major focus for Apple this year, with the iPhone 16 Pro designed from the ground up to support these advanced AI capabilities.
Camera Set
The camera system also sees significant improvements. The iPhone 16 Pro features a 48MP fusion camera, a new 48MP ultrawide camera, and a 12MP 5x telephoto lens. The tetraprism design, which was exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro Max, is now available on the regular iPhone 16 Pro. The Camera Control button is also new, and Apple plans to add a two-stage shutter via a software update later this year. In terms of video capabilities, the iPhone 16 Pro can record 4K video at 120fps, with the ability to adjust playback speed within the Photos app.
Apple has also improved the audio hardware on the iPhone 16 Pro, adding four studio-quality microphones and the ability to capture spatial audio when recording video. A future update to the Voice Memos app will allow users to layer tracks over recordings, making it particularly useful for musicians.
With the iPhone 16 Pro, Apple is pushing deeper into AI technology with Apple Intelligence, including AI-driven tools like an upgraded Siri and potential integration with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which were first introduced at the company’s Worldwide Developers Conference.
Pricing for the iPhone 16 Pro has yet to be confirmed, but these phones continue the trend of premium features like titanium bodies, the Action Button, and the switch from Lightning to USB-C, which was introduced with the iPhone 15 Pro lineup.
