Today the iPhone 5 launched across the world. I was lucky enough to be apart of the New York city action. The Fifth Ave Apple store was buzzing like I had never seen before, with media from all over. The line went from 5th ave down around Madison ave. I was able to get through the sea of people early, to view Apple Store employees being pumped up by their management. People were chanting “IPHONE 5″at the top of their lungs.
A few minutes before the doors opened I was able to speak to a couple waiting. They had been in line since 5 in the morning. I asked them “what two features of the iPhone 5 they were most excited for?” They replied right away with “The new A6 chip, and the larger screen”.
There were representatives from websites such as Gazelle on the scene. Looking to get people to trade in their old iPhones for money. I imagine for next few months there will be a big market for iPhone 4 & 3GS trade-ins.
I asked some people in line what version of the iPhone they currently used, and to my surprise many said “the 3GS.”
When the clock struck 8 a.m. and the doors opened everyone went insane, as if Metallica or The Rolling Stones just showed up. I asked some of the lucky new owners of the iPhone 5 what they would do first with their new phone, and a couple replied simply, “make their friends jealous”.
This lucky gentleman posed for the camera with his brand new white iPhone 5!
Overall it was an exciting spectacle, and I would say that Apple hasn’t lost any hype with each release of a new iPhone.
Here are the rest of the photos I took on my early morning journey to the 5th Avenue Apple Store;
