When revealing the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus last week, Apple cited the extra room for larger batteries as a major reason for axing the headphone jack. Now, it turns out that the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus do house significantly bigger batteries than their predecessors, the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus.
According to iPhone7.nl, specifications about the new iPhones’ batteries have been made public by the Chinese certification agency TENAA. And, thanks to TENAA, we now know that the iPhone 7 comes with a 1,960 milliamp-hour battery, while there’s a 2,900 milliamp-hour battery in the iPhone 7 Plus.
That compares to the 1,715 and 2,750 milliamp-hour batteries in, respectively, the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus. That’s not the only reason to expect better battery life in the iPhone 7 series. The new models also use quad-core A10 Fusion chips – whereby two low-power cores are responsible for handling less demanding tasks and so help to lighten the handsets’ power consumption.
