After recently reporting that this year’s iPhone could offer a new, “deep blue” color option, the Japanese site Macotakara now claims to have made a blunder here: the new color will instead be a “much darker” version of the existing space gray option, which it will replace in the line-up.
Danbo of Macotakara reportedly got in touch with AppleInsider today with news that, according to his own sources, this new, darker shade will be “close to black, though not quite black”. Macotakara has also updated its original story about the “deep blue” color with this new information.
It’s possible that Apple is simply restoring space gray to the shade of the space gray iPhone 5S, pictured above; various other “space gray” Apple devices released since that phone’s 2013 launch have been a noticeably lighter shade. However, 9to5Mac hints that the color could be even darker than this…
The site claims to have been informed by one of its own sources that the iPhone 7 will come in “a new Space Black finish, similar to the Apple Watch”. 9to5Mac concedes that this was “an anonymous source with absolutely no track record, … but their IP address is at least located near Apple HQ and it came with some seemingly reliable info”. Similar details from more reliable sources could yet be forthcoming…
