T-Mobile CEO John Legere has revealed that the iPhone 7 has attracted about four times more preorders than 2014’s phenomenally popular iPhone 6 among the mobile carrier’s customers.
Legere made the revelation during a question-and-answer session on the live video streaming platform Periscope. He further revealed that the above-pictured matte Black had been the most popular color option, despite many of the chat’s participants having first guessed Jet Black.
As T-Mobile, helped along by its “Uncarrier” branded strategies, has grown its subscriber base in recent years, it is unclear to what extent the iPhone 7’s huge popularity with T-Mobile could be attributed to the growth of the carrier’s own customer base. However, there is evidence elsewhere that the iPhone 7 could indeed be outpacing the iPhone 6 in preorders.
UK retailer Carphone Warehouse had earlier reported that, during the first 24 hours following the official unveil of the iPhone 7, visits to its iPhone pre-registration website had increased by 28% on the corresponding number of visits following the announcement of the iPhone 6.
These figures could attract much attention from Apple customers and investors, as Apple has told CNBC that it will not report a first-weekend sales figure for the iPhone 7 – pointing out that, as new iPhones regularly sell out, initial sales “will be governed by supply, not demand, and we have decided that it is no longer a representative metric”.
