iPhone 7 Plus to Include 256GB Storage Option, Says Report

A new report claims that the iPhone 7 Plus will come with a 256GB storage option and bigger 3,100mAh battery to help further differentiate it from the smaller iPhone 7. But it’s a dubious story…

MacRumors, paraphrasing the original Chinese-language report from MyDrivers.com, notes that there is no mention of whether Apple will also drop the 16GB storage option for the iPhone 7 Plus. The new battery would be about 12.7% larger than the 2,750mAh battery in the iPhone 6 Plus.

The report hints that Apple could be about to take advantage of the 5.5-inch iPhone’s size to make it technically beefier than its smaller brother – a practice it has not followed with the iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 6S Plus.

It is debatable whether Apple would change its strategy for the iPhone 7 Plus. Apple has long tended to portray the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhone models as different only in their sizes, and may want to resist marketing the iPhone 7 Plus as “better” than the iPhone 7, given the large number of people who continue to favor smartphones in traditional, rather than “phablet”, size.
