Is Apple Slowly Abandoning the iPod?

Not too long ago, we suggested that Apple could be preparing to launch a sixth generation version of the iPod Touch this year. However, evidence is mounting that, on the contrary, Apple could be slowly winding down production of iPod models.

A new version of the iPod Touch failed to feature in Apple’s Keynote at WWDC this week, but that isn’t the most convincing evidence, considering that the main conference’s focus tends to be on software. The most convincing is that, during WWDC, Apple removed the iPod tab from its website – after it had been an apparently crucial part of the website for 13 years.

Though the iPod page can still be reached through the new Apple Music tab, this subtle change, along with declining iPod sales and Apple’s decisions to stop reporting iPod sales this year and cancel the iPod Classic last year, together suggest that the days of the legendary and historically revolutionary music player are numbered.
