Is ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’ facing another delay?

September 24, 2021, was supposed to be the theatrical premiere date for the already-delayedĀ Venom sequel,Ā Venom: Let There Be Carnage. The long-awaited sequel to Tom Hardy’sĀ Venom was hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, which delayed its release for a whole year, despite fans’ craving for the sequel to come out. Yet, several days ago, Sony has announced that the movie would be delayed for several weeks and is now scheduled for an October 15 theatrical release.

THR reported on the delay with the following comment: “Sony was next, relocating sequel Venom: Let There Be Carnage, starring Tom Hardy, from Sept. 24 to Oct. 15, and then, on Aug. 16, selling off Hotel Transylvania 4: Transformania, which had been set to hit theaters Oct. 1, to Amazon in a windfall $100 million-plus deal. Regarding Venom, thereā€™s buzz that it could move yet again. Either way, Sony has secured some breathing room.”

Now, whileĀ Hotel Transylvania’s delay should not come as a surprise, as the insecure market isn’t the best place for an animated feature,Ā Venom would have certainly earned Sony some money at the box office, but the company still decided to push it back. What’s especially worrisome is there are talks of yet another delay, which is certainly not good news.

There is also the question of whether and howĀ Venom’s delay might influenceĀ Morbius andĀ Spider-Man: No Way Home, as the three movies seem to be connected in some way, but not directly in the narrative sense.Ā Venom: Let There Be Carnage stars Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock, the host of the Venom symbiote. In the sequel, Eddie and Venom are going to face a threat in the form of serial killer Cletus Kasady and his symbiote, Carnage. Cletus Kasady is going to be played by Woody Harrelson.

So, to reiterate, the movie is set for an October 15 release and we sincerely hope it won’t get delayed once more!
