Apple has just named vice president of wireless technologies, Isabel Ge Mahe, new managing director of Greater China.
Mahe will report to CEO Tim Cook and COO Jeff Williams and will be the driving force behind new investment in China. In a statement released yesterday, Apple quoted Tim Cook:
“Apple is strongly committed to invest and grow in China, and we are thrilled that Isabel will be bringing her experience and leadership to our China team,”
“She has dedicated a great deal of her time in recent years to delivering innovation for the benefit of Apple customers in China, and we look forward to making even greater contributions under her leadership.”
Who is Isabel Ge Mache?
Mahe waas born in Shenyang, Liaoning, is fluent in Mandarin and completed both Bachelor and Masters degree in Electrical Engineering at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia. She also has an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley.
Previous roles
Mahe has a wealth of experience behind her. She was vice president of software engineering at Palm from 2002 to 2008, before she joined Apple.
For nine years, Mahe has led Apple’s wireless technologies software engineering teams. We have Mahe to thank for her involvement in the development of cellular, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, location and motion technologies. She developed these in a range of Apple products and oversaw the development of Apple Pay, HomeKit and CarPlay.
She also has held the position of advisor at the Silicon Valley-China Wireless Technology Association, for a number of years and continues to do so.
Exciting new opportunities for Apple
Apple has seen China as an increasingly important market over the past few years. However, Apple is struggling to compete with cheaper Android devices in China and Mahe appointment is a big step towards tackling this.
Mahe will now take over at Apple’s Shanghai office at the end of the summer and expressed how honored she is in a statement:
“Everyone at Apple is proud of the contributions we make to the communities where we do business, and I am looking forward to deepening our team’s connections with customers, government and businesses in China to advance innovation and sustainability,”
