iTunes Review – February 1, 2013

There is a little bit of everything in the iTunes movies reviews this week. The movies star Kevin James, Bruce Willis, Dave Grohl, Russell Crowe, and Adam Sandberg. How's that for a diverse lot? The music reviews feature the country talent of Randy Houser and Gary Allan.

The following is an excerpt of a review of Here Comes the Boom starring Kevin James, Henry Winkler, and Salma Hayek that will appear in tomorrow's issue of TechLife News in the iOS Newsstand and AppleMagazine digital magazine at Zinio.

First Seth Rogen and Jonah Hill lost weight making them better able to play roles in films that are more action-oriented, and now Kevin James is doing the same. Always known as a more portly actor first in the series King of Queens, and later in movies Grown Ups and Paul Blart: Mall Cop, James shed some poundage during fourteen months of training for his starring role in Here Comes the Boom.

Scott Voss is a collegiate wrestler turned biology teacher. The high school where he is employed is faced with budget cutbacks, and one place it plans to make some cuts is in its music program, which will see Voss' colleague, Marty, get laid off. Voss decides to raise the needed money in order to help the school, help his friend, and also help the students. He starts by moonlighting as an instructor for a citizenship class. One of his new students is Niko, a former mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter.

Voss finds out that even the losers of the MMA fights earn $10,000, leading him to decide to try this to raise the money for the school. Many people believe the 42-year-old teacher is crazy for taking this on, including the school nurse, Bella. Voss starts training and lands some small fights and begins making more and more money for the school. Eventually he gets an offer to fight in the UFC.

The other movies reviewed are The Cold Light of Day, Sound City, The Man with the Iron Fists, and Celeste and Jesse Forever. The two albums reviewed are How Country Feels and Set You Free.
