A man who operated a revenge porn site is being sent to jail for 18 years. Kevin Bollaert ran the UGotPosted.com website which encouraged people to upload intimate pictures of their ex-partners without their consent. Bollaert charged people featured in the photos up to $350 to remove them.
Bollaert was convicted on 21 counts of ID theft and six of extortion in February. Eight women testified in court and becoming victims of harassment due to the uploads. Some women were forced to leave their colleges or workplaces, whilst some received counseling. The site operated between December 2012 and September 2013. 10,000 images were uploaded during this time.
Bollaert has been told he must pay $15,000 in restitution as well as a $10,000 fine. It’s though he made at least $30,000 from people begging him to remove images of themselves. California Attorney General Kamala Harris called Bollaert “cowardly” and a “predator”.
Another former revenge porn site operator is to be sentence shortly. Hunter Moor, who ran the website IsAnyoneUp has pleaded guilty to hacking and identity theft. He is to receive a large fine and spend between two and seven years in prison. Laws making the uploading of revenge porn illegal have been launched in the UK.
