Jay-Z’s Streaming Service Tidal Approved by Musicians

Some of the world’s most prominent music stars have got behind Jay Z’s “artist-friendly” streaming service, Tidal. Artists including Kanye West, Rihanna, Coldplay and Madonna have offered their support to the site by turning their Twitter profiles teal blue in order to reflect the service’s branding.

The new service has just been launched and offers CD-quality streaming and access to a vast library of music videos in exchange for monthly fee. Music by Taylor Swift is on the service despite pulling her music from Spotify last year. Subscribers can pay $9.99 for standard-quality music or £19.99 per month for the full range of features.

Rumors suggest that Rihanna will be premiering her new album on Tidal to coincide with the launch. She is signed to Jay Z’s Roc Nation label. The launch comes after Jay Z’s company Project Panther bought Aspiro, which owns two streaming sites. It’s thought that Tidal will offer artists a greater share of revenue than rivals including Spotify and Beats Music.

Apple is set to relaunch its iTunes Radio service after buying Dr Dre’s Beats Electronic last year. More rumors about former BBC Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe’s new role withApple have started to circulate.
