Jimmy Iovine is allegedly leaving Apple in August

Apple Music executive Jimmy Iovine, who has worked with the likes of Dr. Dre, Eddy Cue, Trent Reznor and Robert Kondrk, is allegedly planning on leaving Apple in August of this year.

This rumor first surfaced on Hits Daily Double but since then Billboard has said that its sources have confirmed the news. According to Billboard, Iovine’s departure will be timed with the vesting of stock he acquired when he first joined Apple.

Iovine first joined Apple in 2014 when the company acquired Beats Electronics and the Beats Music streaming service, both of which were co-founded by Iovine and Dr.Dre. Before that, Iovine already had a long history with the company, pitching a subscription service to Steve Jobs as far back as 2003.

Although Iovine does not have any official title at Apple he has been heavily involved in Apple Music since it was launched in 2015 and has negotiated many deals for the company. Some might say that thanks to Iovine, Apple Music has seen a huge growth with it now boasting more than 30 million subscribers.

It remains unclear as to whether Iovine will be replaced if he leaves, but even if he receives a new offer it is unlikely that he’ll choose to stay as his views have often clashed with the views of other executives in the company.
