KiteDesk Cloud Productivity App Exits Beta, Goes Mobile

The web version of KiteDesk, the popular cloud productivity service that launched out of stealth mode in the fall, exited public beta today with new integrations to Facebook and Yahoo. Also today, KiteDesk announced the launch of its mobile application for iOS users. KiteDesk for the iPhone and iPad can now be downloaded for free via iTunes. Artfully designed around concepts of simplicity and relevance, KiteDesk integrates content from users’ favorite cloud services as contextual, customizable data streams.

What is KiteDesk?

KiteDesk is among the first in a new breed of cloud productivity services that seeks to contextualize end-user online experiences. Instead of apps that treat all content the same, contextual services filter content according to users’ unique data preferences. KiteDesk does this by combining email, social media posts, calendar items, contacts and documents from Google Apps, Facebook, Twitter, Dropbox and Yahoo into programmable, searchable, shareable, commentable data streams. This way users can spend more time communicating with friends and colleagues, and less time searching for relevant information across applications.

KiteDesk can be customized to create cross-service streams for things like “home remodel” or “work project,” based on easy to set up tags and search terms. Streams appear as graphical file cards that identify when, for instance, a Twitter post was made, by whom and about what. Users can click cards to drill deeper or respond. The result is a single inbox, calendar, contact list and file cabinet for cloud services, simplifying access to users’ important information.

For example, a freelance writer may have a personal as well as a business Gmail account for sending article drafts to her editor. She might use Google Drive for submitting expense reports and Dropbox for story photos. She might have Facebook and Twitter accounts for publicizing her portfolio to clients, and personal accounts for staying in touch with friends. With KiteDesk she can tie these accounts together and view relevant content from custom-built, automatically generating data streams, making it faster and easier to access the info she needs.
