The iPhone 6 release date has pretty much been confirmed. Photos of the iPhone 6 user guide were leaked by French tech site Nowhereelse, who has released images in the past that have proven accurate. The diagram of the anticipated smartphone shows on its lock screen the date and time as September 9, 2014 and 9:41 a.m.
One important feature on the guide that we might take for granted is the name at the top of the insert: iPhone 6. It seems unimportant, but this photo is the first real confirmation we’ve had that Apple’s new smartphone is really called the iPhone 6. Other noticeable features on the diagram included lengthened volume buttons and the Sleep/Wake button on the right side of rather than the top of the device.
Last year, Nowhereelse leaked an iPhone 5s user guide whose smartphone diagram showed September 10, 2013 as the date on the lock screen, the exact date that the iPhones 5s and 5c were unveiled. The diagram also revealed the fingerprint sensor’s name as Touch ID. Given Nowhereelse’s reputation, it’s safe to assume that September 9 is, in fact, the date.
Some are arguing that the leak may be a fake. The Ring/Silent switch label is missing a slash, as is the Home button/Touch ID sensor label. There is also a comma missing between “Tuesday” and “September” on the lock screen. If it is a fake there is still plenty of assent among media and consumers alike that September 9 is the next-gen iPhone release date. It could be, too, that the user guide is still in its drafting state and hasn’t gone to the copy editors for inspection. If the guide is the real deal, an editor will certainly catch those small grammar hiccups.
Executives at Apple have said this is the best product lineup they’ve seen in 25 years, and it’s no wonder: along with the iPhone 6, we’re expecting the iWatch to be unveiled alongside various new versions of the iPad. Though the Cupertino company has yet to invite any media to its September event, but invitations should be going out soon enough.
