Leaker says Apple will premiere Apple Watch in September, iPhone 12 in October

A reliable Apple leaker has confirmed the release dates for Apple’s fall product portfolio.

Last month, Apple confirmed that its next-generation smartphones – likely to be called the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max – would be delayed, and instead be available “a few weeks later” than the company’s usual September release schedules.

Now, Jon Prosser, who has a proven track record of sharing Apple’s plans, has suggested that Apple will invite developers to an event on October 12 to show off the iPhone 12 range, and take preorders on the same day. Shipments will begin the following week.

He believes that Apple will premiere new Apple Watch models and iPad models week commencing September 7 via a press release rather than the usual fanfare, and follow it up with an event for the new iPhone during the week of October 12. Apple will then allow consumers to preorder on the same day, and begin shipping new iPhones from October 19.

The iPhone 12 Pro range, however, will likely be delayed, with preorders and shipping beginning in November. This corresponds to previous rumors that Apple’s release schedule would be split to alleviate supply chain pressures brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Do you think this release schedule seems likely? Would you be disappointed if the new Apple Watch and iPad models don’t receive a keynote presentation? Let us know your thoughts on these stories and check back soon for more developments at AppleMagazine.
