It is the time of year where all the new tech gets unveiled by various companies from around the globe at the annual CES event in Las Vegas. CES 2018 will show the public 8K televisions, ultra-thin laptops and new smartphones from companies like Sony. The main focus this, however, is on AI technology. The first artificial intelligence announcement was from LG.
LG are best known for their home appliances and TV’s. CES showed that LG has been working on Artificial Intelligence similar to Amazons Alexa and Google Home, which are the biggest competitors in the game right now. LG have named their artificial personality ‘Cloi’. The company claimed that this device will be the ultimate helper for the home, especially the kitchen. When demonstrating what the device was capable of, Cloi ignored commands three times in a row. This was an extremely embarrassing moment for the LG, especially when they are up against the likes of Google, Amazon and soon Apple, with HomePod coming early this year.
David VanderWaal, LG’s US Marketing Chief then went on to announce three robots, a Porter Robot, a Shopping Cart Robot and a Serving Robot. The large devices had a similar face to Cloi, a circle screen with two eyes that blink. BBC have said by the time LG announced the three robots the audience was already focused on laughing at Cloi’s earlier appearance.
I am excited to see what the rest of CES has to come, especially with new AI and TV’s. Unfortunately, there will be no mention of Apple’s HomePod at the event. What are you excited to see at CES this year? Let us know on Twitter at @AppleMagazine.
