Lucid Motors has now added Apple CarPlay support to all four models of its Lucid Air electric vehicles: the Stealth, Sapphire, Pure, and Touring. Current owners will receive the feature in an over-the-air update.
Apple CarPlay allows drivers to make and answer calls, send and receive texts, get directions, play music, and use Siri without taking their eyes off the road. CarPlay also supports third-party iOS apps such as food delivery, messaging, EV charging, and parking apps. Lucid joins several other automobile manufacturers, including Polestar, Volvo, BMW, and Audi, in supporting CarPlay.
In addition to current functionalities, Apple plans to update the CarPlay software system in the fall of 2023 with next-generation features such as multi-screen displays, new fueling and driving tasks apps, and the ability for Siri to send messages automatically after reading them.
While the first automobiles to support the new CarPlay will not be announced until the end of 2023 and will arrive for consumers in 2024 or 2025, new app categories will be available in the fall.
Lucid’s move to add Apple CarPlay support to its electric vehicles reflects the growing trend of integrating technology into automobiles to improve the driving experience and make it safer for drivers to access information and entertainment on the road.
