Lyford Consolidated Independent School District, encompassing elementary, middle, and high schools in Lyford, Texas, has recently earned recognition in the Apple Distinguished School program.

This prestigious program, which already includes notable institutions like the University of Kentucky and the Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center, now counts Lyford’s schools among its distinguished members, bringing the total in Texas to 27.

Mark Pinon, an instructional technology specialist for the district, expressed pride and honor at this first-time achievement for all schools in the district. “This is the first time,” Pinon said, “and we were very excited and we were honored that every school in the district achieved the Apple Distinguished designation.”

The schools submitted their application in 2022, meeting the program’s requirement of providing each student with at least one digital device. Pinon highlighted the district’s decision to choose Apple devices for their efficiency and purpose, aligning with the program’s objectives. “The district chose Apple devices, not so much for branding but for the purpose and the efficiency of Apple devices,” Pinon explained.

Globally, there are 888 schools in 37 countries recognized as Apple Distinguished Schools. Lyford’s success, according to Pinon, stems from the district’s core beliefs, which resonate with Apple’s emphasis on inspiring students.

“Our core beliefs as a district align with Apple as far as inspiring the students to lead, learn and thrive,” he noted.

Pinon also emphasized the district’s commitment to student success beyond graduation, viewing education as a continuous community effort. “Lyford doesn’t just see that their job as an educator ends once a student graduates,” he added, “but what we do as a whole community of educators to make sure that those students succeed after they have graduated and into college.”

As part of the Apple Distinguished School program, Lyford schools will join a global network of educational leaders, engage with Apple’s Education team, and participate in leadership events.
