M2 Pro and M2 Max MacBook Pro to arrive this fall

Apple is now expected to release the M2 Pro and M2 Max MacBook Pro this fall.

According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, the company is expected to follow up the 13-inch MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models with a new M2 Pro and M2 Max MacBook Pro later this fall.

The company is reportedly keen to build upon the success of the new 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro and plans to release a successor before the year is through. Apple will ship the devices with the M2 processor, though it’s unlikely we’ll see any design changes with this release.

“Look for much of the focus to be on the graphics side, just like with the standard M2,” Gurman said when teasing the release of the new models. According to early M2 benchmarks, Apple’s M2 chip is around 11% faster than the M1 chip on single-core tasks, and up to 20% faster on multi-core performance, so it’s a noticeable difference just a year apart.

Gurman has suggested that the new M2 Pro and M2 Max chips, which are much faster than the standard M2 variants, will put greater emphasis on the graphics side to support professional users with video editing and coding.

He added that “given the continued supply-chain challenges, it’s hard to predict exactly when these will hit store shelves,” but said he expects to see them ship later this year.
