Apple will debut the M3 chip next year, according to a new report.

Apple will show off the next-generation chip in a refreshed MacBook Air as well as a new 15-inch model, and it could appear in the next iteration of the 24-inch iMac next year too.

Speaking in his newsletter, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg said that the company had already been testing the successor to the M2, and the chip could come “as early as next year with updates to the 13-inch MacBook Air code-named J513, a 15-inch MacBook Air known as J515, a new iMac code-named J433 and possibly a 12-inch laptop that’s still in early development.”

A separate report from DigiTimes suggests that the M2 Pro and the M3 will be made on TSMC’s 3nm process and production on the chips will kick off in the second half of 2022. It corresponds to Gurman’s suggestion that the M2 Pro and M2 Max will feature in the 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro refresh later this year or early in 2023, alongside an updated Mac mini.

It has also been suggested that Apple will launch a new 15-inch MacBook Air. The company plans to unveil the model next year, and a new M3 chip will no doubt serve as a great selling point. Separately, a new 12-inch MacBook is reportedly in development, with Apple reportedly considering reintroducing the standard ‘MacBook’ name.
