MacBook and iMac shipments grow more than 90% in the first quarter of 2021

Apple has seen record growth in its iMac and MacBook range in the first quarter of 2021.

Following Apple’s record-breaking earnings call last month, new data from Strategy Analytics suggests that Apple has seen significant growth in its Mac shipments. Their report says that shipments were up 81% during the quarter thanks to the continuation of remote working, and added that Apple saw a 94% increase in growth.

Last month, the Cupertino company confirmed that its Mac range had grown more than 70% year-over-year, with revenues of $9.1 billion in the quarter. Apple, however, does not issue unit sales updates on any of its products, and so analysis and estimations from the likes of Strategy Analytics come into play and help fill in the gaps.

Strategy Analytics believes that Apple shipped more than 5.7 million Macs in the first calendar quarter of 2021, a 94% jump on last year’s 2.9 million Macs in Q1.

Thanks to its continued growth, Apple has an 8.4% share of the industry, which has grown from 7.8% last year.

It’s important to remember that the COVID-19 pandemic has no doubt had an impact on the number of Macs sold, but it could also be down to Apple’s decision to upgrade its models with a new M1 chip. So far, Apple has given the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and Mac mini a refresh with a custom chip, and later this month, the first M1-enabled iMac will go on sale, complete with a stunning new redesign, setting the standard for future Macs.
