Petition calls Apple to recall all defect MacBook Pro keyboards

A new petition calls for Apple to recall versions of the MacBook that incorporate a butterfly mechanism keyboard. This design has caused many users numerous issues since its release.

The Change.org petition, calls for Apple to voluntarily recall all MacBook Pros released sinceĀ late 2016 with a defective keyboard and “replace with DIFFERENT working keyboard”. The petition is asking for an entirely new design that does not suffer from failures and is not unreliable with unresponsive keys. The petition does not mention the 12-inch MacBook, which also includes the same butterfly keyboard mechanism.

“Apple, it’s time:Ā recallĀ every MacBook Pro released since Late 2016, andĀ replace the keyboardsĀ on all of them withĀ new, redesigned keyboardsĀ thatĀ just work.

Because, these keyboards don’t work.

Every one of Apple’s current-gen MacBook Pro models, 13″ and 15″, is sold with a keyboard that can become defective at any moment due to a design failure.

The problems are widespread, consistent, and infuriating.”

The faulty keyboard is such a big problem due to how hard and expensive it is to replace the keyboard. For a singular broken key, some have been billed more than $700. If a switch fails, the keyboard,Ā battery and upper metal case all need to be replaced!

At the time of writing, the petition has 3,500+ signatures.
