Apple could release macOS Catalina on October 4, according to a leak.
Whilst Apple has been tight-lipped on the launch date for macOS Catalina, an update on Apple’s Danish website suggests that it could arrive next Friday (October 4). Under the Apple Arcade section of the macOS Catalina website in Denmark, Apple suggests that users will be able to play Apple Arcade games on the Mac on October 4.
And because macOS Catalina is required to play Apple Arcade games, October 4 makes sense as the release date.
It’s important to note, however, that the text has now been changed on Apple’s Danish website.
“Exceptional gameplay. Find it in the App Store from October 4,” said the text, translated into English.
Apple did not provide any other dates on the website, and October 4 was only included on the Catalina beta page, so there is a possibility that this was a typo.
What’s interesting to note about the October 4 date is that Apple has typically released macOS updates on a Monday or Tuesday.
October 4 falls on a Friday, which makes the release less likely, however, OS X Snow Leopard did drop on a Friday almost ten years ago.
It could be that Apple plans to release macOS Catalina during the week and drop Apple Arcade on October 4, but Apple Arcade arrived alongside iOS 13 so it seems unlikely.
macOS Catalina is the first macOS release to ship without iTunes – instead, the app will be broken down into three individual programs for Music, TV, and Podcasts, all rebuilt from the ground up.
iOS device management will move to Finder, and Photos, Notes, and Reminders are overhauled to fall in line with their iOS 13 counterparts, and Safari introduces a new start page alongside cloud Tabs.
Apple has already dropped iOS 13, iPadOS, tvOS 13, and watchOS 6, so macOS should be just around the corner.
