Industry insider Mark Gurman has signaled that there will be an expansive update to Apple’s iPad range in 2024, with anticipated new versions for all categories including the iPad Pro, iPad Air, iPad mini, and the standard iPad.
Gurman’s insights, shared in his Power On newsletter, point out the noticeable absence of fresh iPad and AirPods models for the current holiday season. He elaborates that while new releases were not rushed this year, a comprehensive update across the iPad spectrum is on the horizon for 2024, along with the introduction of new entry-level AirPods, and a Pro model set to follow in 2025.
This marks 2023 as potentially the first year since the iPad’s inception with no new model being introduced. Historical updates for each iPad model were as follows:
- iPad Pro: October 2022
- iPad: October 2022
- iPad Air: March 2022
- iPad mini: September 2021
Speculation suggests updates for the lower to mid-range iPad models could emerge as soon as March 2024. Meanwhile, expectations for the new 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro models include M3 chips and OLED displays, projected for release in the first half of 2024.
Future iterations of the iPad Air and iPad mini are predicted to feature M2 and A16 Bionic chips, further advancing the technical prowess of Apple’s tablet lineup.
