As well as the “iPhone 5SE”, Apple’s rumored March event could see reveals of the iPad Air 3 and new Apple Watch bands – but not, contrary to recent suggestion, a second generation Apple Watch.
TechCrunch recently cast doubt on a December report that a second generation Apple Watch would be launched in the Spring. 9to5Mac has just concurred, claiming that, while Apple will introduce new band color options for the wearable in March, second generation hardware will instead arrive in the fall.
9to5Mac also reports being told that completely new bands made out of new materials, plus partnerships with other firms following the Hermès collaboration, are in the works – but it is unclear whether those would be ready for unveiling in March.
The news site’s sources say that Apple is “tentatively planning a small media event in March”. Still, it looks like this could be jettisoned in favor of an online-only announcement, like that of the latest iPod Touch, unless another product becomes ready for announcing around the same time.
That product could be the iPad Air 3. A leading iOS app developer is said to have noticed, in November, evidence that new iPad models codenamed “iPad 6,3 and 6,4” – hinting at devices slotting somewhere between the iPad Air 2 and iPad Pro in specs – were in testing.
