Minneapolis-based Mariner Software has long sold but not owned the MacGourmet line off Apple Macintosh and iOS apps for home cooks.
In somewhat of a landmark move for the small software publisher, it now has full ownership of the popular foodie apps in a recent deal with former owner Advenio.
The deal is “huge,” said Mariner Software President Michael Wray. “It’s certainly the one that took the longest.”
Terms were not disclosed.
Mariner has slowly built up its portfolio of Mac, iOS and Windows software titles over time, both via internal development and by making acquisitions.
Its 2009 purchase of two GGT Enterprises products, ReceiptWallet and DocumentWallet, was particularly significant, Wray said. They merged into what is today Paperless, an app for digitizing physical documents.
The company’s recent acquisitions include MacGourmet and MacGourmet Deluxe, both for the Mac, and MacGourmet Touch for the iOS platform. The latter has been renamed Gourmet iOS.
All the apps also are seeing updates, too. These are rolling out this week.
The iOS app will see the most extensive such upgrades, now boasting the capability to operate independently of its Mac siblings and to import recipes from popular cooking sites. All versions of the food software are able to synchronize via a new Mariner Software cloud-storage service.
MacGourmet and Gourmet iOS permits casual home cooks to manage recipes. MacGourmet Deluxe is aimed at more advanced foodies with nutrition, cookbook and meal-plan organizing.
