If you need help with understanding and managing an outbreak of acne, you could join the thousands of users of MDacne. This iPhone app, developed by the Israel-based mobile health startup MDAlgorithms, uses image analysis to assess a userโs skin condition before providing customized advice.
Upon first loading the app, an acne sufferer can fill in a questionnaire about their condition before submitting selfies for analysis. The app can then use artificial intelligence to put together a tailored skin care plan and daily routine, including daily tips and reminders, for treating that acne.
Oded Harth, CEO of MDAlgorithms, told MedCityNews that the app, which measures the severity of acne through use of a 10-grade chart with which dermatologists are familiar, has attracted 10,000 users โ most of them in the US โ since its soft launch on the iOS App Store in December.
Board Certified Dermatologist Dr. Yoram Harth, who co-founded MDAlgorithms, also pointed out that 80% of people with acne are unable to afford meeting up with a dermatologist to seek help for their condition. The MDacne app, however, is free to download โ while there is a choice of subscription options for users seeking more in-depth advice, including video tutorials, on how to tackle their acne.
