Meta named ‘Worst Company of the Year’

Meta, previously known as Facebook, has been named the worst company of the year.

The company has faced a difficult twelve months of public backlash and controversies, which led to Mark Zuckerberg rebranding Facebook to Meta last month. A new survey from Yahoo Finance has decided that Meta was the worst company of the year because of its challenges and disregard for staff or users.

Yahoo Finance also crowns the best company of the year, and Microsoft was handed the honor in this instance.

In a survey that featured responses from more than 1,000 staffers, Facebook received 50% more votes for the top spot than the firm which came in second place, Chinese eCommerce brand Alibaba.

Those who were surveyed say that they had a number of grievances towards Meta, including concerns over data, mental health, privacy, and censorship. Although the report is bad news for Zuckerberg and Co, 30% of respondents said that they could Facebook could redeem itself in the years to come with the right strategy.

Facebook has in recent years developed a reputation for itself for its lack of interest in supporting mental health causes, especially in relation to young people using its platform, as well as its growing cultural and political influence. Earlier in the year, the company battled Apple over the introduction of App Tracking Transparency, which Facebook said would significantly impact its advertising profitability.
