Prepaid carrier MetroPCS is set to launch Music Unlimited, which will remove the usual data caps for users listening to music streaming services including Apple Music.
The policy will certainly reassure music fans who want to avoid having to use public WiFi networks to stream their music when out and about. Music Unlimited will be free to MetroPCS subscribers on an individual plan charging at least $40 per month or a $35-per-line family plan.
Other streaming services supported alongside Apple Music include Spotify, Pandora, iHeartRadio, Rhapsody, Slacker and Milk Music. It is unclear whether MetroPCS had at any point been lining up Music Unlimited support for Beats Music, the spiritual precursor of Apple Music that was recently revealed to be shutting down on November 30.
If the idea behind Music Unlimited, which AppleInsider reports will launch on Thursday, seems familiar, that’s likely due to its great similarity to Music Freedom, a service available to subscribers of MetroPCS’s parent company, T-Mobile USA.
