Just a couple of weeks ago, we reported upon the release of Apple’s holiday commercial, an ad campaign always anticipated around this time of year. They went for a Pixar style animation which ironically didn’t really promote the brand at all, more so the importance of sharing at Christmas. Now, famous rival tech giant Microsoft have released their holiday themed campaign.
While the event is not so eagerly awaited in the technology world and the clip probably won’t go as hotly viral, it is still worth a look – for one reason which unashamedly obliterates Apple’s message of sharing.
The competition has Surfaced…
The team at Microsoft have decided to launch the ad for their Surface tablet by taking a sharp dig at their rival company, by way of rewriting the words to a classic Christmas jingle. Apple are spreading the message of the festive spirit this year, and Microsoft have relished in this windowed opportunity to publicly bash their competition. The commercial features a ten year old girl, who when asked by her grandmother what she would like for Christmas this year, responds with this rewritten version of Grandma Got Run over by a Reindeer:
“Grandma, don’t run out and buy an iPad. It was fine when I was six, but now I’m 10. My dreams are a big so I need a real computer”
The ad solidifies the competition between the two companies, even if it does seem to be more so on Microsoft’s part than Apple’s. But which should you choose this Christmas?
Apple’s iPad Pro 9.7 inch usually starts $329 for a 32GB model and has everything you’d expect from an Apple device: sleek, ultra-modern and trendy.
The Microsoft Surface retails at around $379 for a 64GB 10 inch screen and features the reliable interface of most Microsoft devices. It allows you to switch effortlessly between devices thanks to its versatile capability.
The specific prices of the devices could vary with discounts at this time of year, but whichever you choose is bound to but a smile on someone’s face (or maybe your own) this Christmas.
