Microsoft Buy App Maker Acompli

Microsoft have confirmed everyone’s suspicions and snapped up the San Francisco app maker Acompli after months of speculation. Rumors that they were about the purchase the company began when a blogger accidentally leaked the plans, with acquisition finally being confirmed on Monday.

Microsoft’s Jha said of the acquisition “In a world where more than half of email messages are first read on a mobile device, it’s essential to give people fantastic email experiences wherever they go.”

The company made their Office suite available for Apple devices earlier this year. Acompli build e-mail apps for Apple and Google, with the acquisition providing further evidence that Microsoft are now happy to embrace other operating system owners. It’s thought that Microsoft have decided to do this due to Apple and Google’s dominance of the mobile market. Reports suggest that the sellers of Acompli received just over $200 for their business.

What do you think? Have Microsoft spent wisely or does it seem that they are falling behind their fellow innovators? Tell us your thoughts below.
