With Project Scorpio, a significantly revamped version of the Xbox One, set to arrive about a year after the PlayStation 4 Pro, it begs the question: will this not be too late for Microsoft to effectively compete? A Microsoft executive has disagreed in an interview with Eurogamer.net.
Albert Penello, senior director of product managing and planning at Microsoft’s Xbox division, has insisted that the “continuity of games and users and accessories” means that Microsoft doesn’t have to fret about playing catch-up to the Pro, as the battle won’t be “like PS5 and Xbox 2”.
He pointed out: “Anybody who buys an Xbox One today, they already are buying Scorpio games. There are already games that will look better and games that will be in 4K. So they’re already invested in Scorpio. All their accessories work, and their account carries over, and it’s going to be seamless.”
The PlayStation 4 Pro, a technologically enhanced version of the original PlayStation 4, will be released in November, while Microsoft has revealed that Project Scorpio will launch “holiday 2017”.
