Microsoft has announced that the “first major update” for Windows 10 is now available. The Redmond firm pledges “improvements in all aspects of the platform and experience”, while the operating system is also said to be launching for Xbox One today and select mobile phones soon.
Many of the fresh enhancements are detailed in a new post on the official Windows blog. They include performance tweaks for “everyday tasks”; the boot time is reportedly now almost 30% speedier than Windows 7 on the same device. Plus, Cortana can now recognize contact details scribbled in the Cortana Notebook with a pen accessory, while the Edge browser gets better security.
As reported by Mashable, the update also means that Xbox One gamers will be able to enjoy backwards compatibility for Xbox 360 titles. This feature had been long-promised, and will add many more games to the newer console’s back catalog.
Microsoft says that the Windows 10 update is now available for various PCs and tablets. Users of authentic versions of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 can still freely upgrade to Windows 10; this new November update will come as part of the enticing package.
