Microsoft Launches Windows 10 to Generally Positive Reviews

Following the commonly negative reactions to Windows 8, it was vital for Microsoft to make amends with the next version of the OS, Windows 10. It has largely succeeded, as many critics have hailed the new OS upon its launch for rectifying many of Windows 8’s problems.

Windows 10 became available to the public from midnight today, and can be freely downloaded by users of Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1. The OS has been built for use on desktops, laptops and tablets, like its predecessor, but has brought back the popular Start button.

The Verge had its say on Windows 10 in the following video review.

The Wall Street Journal‘s Joanna Stern wrote positively of Windows 10, but noted that Microsoft’s ecosystem remains less coherent than Apple’s. Meanwhile, CNET claimed that the OS “bridges the gap between PCs and tablets without alienating anyone”, and ZDNet columnist Mary Jo Foley said that she prefers the new Windows to Windows 8, despite not needing many of the supposed key features.
