Today, the iOS app for Microsoft’s popular cloud storage service OneDrive was updated with a number of useful new features. The most notable of these include the “long sought after” Share extension, which allows files to be uploaded to OneDrive directly from other apps.
Uploading files in this way simply involves, in another app, selecting the files, hitting the share option, and then selecting OneDrive on the second line. It’s also now possible to quickly select files within the OneDrive app by tapping and holding on a file, while OneDrive files can now be opened directly in the app – though this particular function remains available only on iOS 9 devices.
Corporate users of OneDrive can especially benefit from the new update, as it can better assist IT administrators in protecting their organization’s data. This is because Microsoft has added Data Loss Protection, which it says will “take some pressure off” admins.
All-in-all, we reckon that it’s an impressive update which should help to further cement Microsoft’s reputation as a leading provider of cloud computing services. The OneDrive app comes in iPhone and iPad versions, and is free to download from the iOS App Store.
