Microsoft Releases $139 Windows 10 Lumia 550 Phone in Europe

Microsoft has just released the great value Windows 10-powered Lumia 550 smartphone in Europe. Other global territories are set to get the budget handset “in the coming weeks”.

A new post on the official Windows blog claims that the new Lumia “offers the best of Microsoft to people who value affordability and uncompromised quality”. The phone comes with a 4.7-inch display, 4G LTE connectivity and many of the standard Microsoft apps and features, including productivity suite Office, cloud storage solution OneDrive and virtual assistant Cortana.

This makes the phone easy for existing users of Windows 10 computers to hook into their use of the broader Microsoft ecosystem – though it could be argued that the quality, contrary to the Redmond firm’s claims, isn’t quite “uncompromised”.

Unsurprisingly considering the low $139 USD price, the specs are relatively limited – they include just 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage and a 5-megapixel back camera. Still, for numerous undemanding phone users, these specs remain likely more than sufficient for their needs.
