Microsoft’s SharePoint Server 2016 – the next major version of the on-premises SharePoint enterprise software – has reached the release to manufacturing stage, the corporation has announced.
Like its predecessor, SharePoint Server 2013, this new version of the software will hand businesses a wealth of useful functions, including handling files, content management and using portals. Microsoft has said that this version will focus particularly strongly on “hybrid capabilities”.

Though a trial of the RTM version of SharePoint Server 2016 is now available for download for Windows Server 2012 R2, Microsoft could yet, on manufacturers’ feedback, make additional tweaks to the software before it arrives in the Microsoft Volume Licensing Service Center in early May.
Microsoft already offers SharePoint Newsfeed, an iOS app which allows for on-the-go use of both on-premises SharePoint Server and the cloud-based SharePoint Online. It remains unclear how Microsoft might update this app, if at all, to take advantage of added functionality in SharePoint Server 2016.
