Microsoft to Announce Two “Xbox TV” Devices Next Month?

Evidence has emerged that Microsoft could announce two Xbox-branded home streaming services at next month’s E3 games conference. The devices would feed into Microsoft’s broader Xbox and Windows ecosystem and be basically the company’s answer to the Apple TV.

In an online podcast today, Petri executive editor Brad Sams said that the Redmond tech titan is “going to be announcing at least two streaming devices at E3”. Sams can be considered a reliable source, having reported about the new Xbox elite controller before it was announced at last year’s E3.

Apparently, one device will be a basic stick for streaming digital content from an Xbox. Sources “familiar with Microsoft’s Xbox plans” have told The Verge that the company has experimented with a device for streaming Xbox One games from a console to a second TV elsewhere in a home.

Sams has speculated that another streaming device will have more advanced features. This “Xbox TV” could run basic, casual games and access universal apps from the Windows Store.

Microsoft is scheduled to reveal its future plans for Xbox at an E3 press conference starting at 1:30pm Eastern Time / 9:30am Pacific Time on June 13.
