Microsoft’s Surface Book Gets Solid Reviews From Top Critics

If you’ve felt drawn to Microsoft’s super-powerful Surface Book since its reveal this month, you’re far from the only one. Various critics have now reviewed the laptop and given a collective thumbs up.

Yahoo‘s Daniel Howley has dubbed the Surface Book, the first laptop built by Microsoft, “as attractive as anything Apple has ever made”, adding that it compares well to the Cupertino company’s rival offering, the MacBook Pro. He reported that his review unit “was able to run a variety of programs and casual games without breaking a visible sweat”.

Meanwhile, Mashable‘s Lance Ulanoff declared that, despite the Surface Book’s hefty price even for its product category, “I do wholeheartedly recommend Microsoft’s first home-grown laptop. It’s elegant, sturdy, peppy and even fun to use.”

Of the few criticisms that the Surface Book has been subjected to in early reviews, many have focused on the hardware design. The Wall Street Journal‘s Joanna Stern has commented that the computer “is chunkier than I’d like”, and suffers from “a slight but unfortunate wobble in the display.”

Alex Wilhelm of TechCrunch has remarked that, despite being billed as having a display that can be detached and used as a tablet, the absence of a kickstand means “that if tablet-a-bility is your main focus, you might want to look at a different device.”
