Microsoft’s Xbox Cloud Gaming service now available on iOS

Microsoft has launched its Xbox Cloud Gaming service on the iPad and iPhone.

However, unlike most new apps, the service can only be accessed via a web browser on Safari.

Xbox Cloud Gaming arrived yesterday (June 28) and is offered to everyone with an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate membership. As well as being able to play on Windows 10, users can now use their iPhone and iPad to access their favorite games and play online, simply by heading to xbox.com/play.

The idea behind Xbox Cloud Gaming is to help users access hundreds of games from the Xbox Game Pass library on whatever device they like. When you enter a game, it’ll be powered by Xbox Series X hardware in upgraded Microsoft data centers, which offers improved framerates and faster load times, taking the strain from your own device. It’s similar to Google’s Stadia program, where games are streamed rather than downloaded.

To take advantage of the new service, you’ll need an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, priced at $14.99 per month in the United States. However, it’s possible to enjoy a three-month trial for just $1.
