Mid-range iPhone 12 will be the most popular smartphone in Apple’s new lineup

Four iPhone 12 models stand upright against a black background. The phones vary in size and color: black, white, and two shades of blue. Each has a sleek, glossy finish with the Apple logo centered on the back. Despite the delay in release, they feature multiple rear cameras.

Reliable Apple insider Ming-Chi Kuo has released a new report with his company TF Securities over the weekend, detailing his expectations for the demand of the new smartphones.

Apple will release the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max at tomorrow’s virtual Hi-Speed event, and now Kuo has analysed which of the models will be the most popular.

Just as the iPhone 11 was the most popular in 2019, it’s widely expected that consumers will follow suit and choose the mid-level iPhone 12 over the mini and Pro.

Kuo’s insiders suggest that around 20% of all iPhone shipments will be of the new smaller mini model, and the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max will each have a 20% allocation.

That leaves a 40% allocation for the iPhone 12, fueled by its generous screen size. Kuo backs up this point, arguing that, although the iPhone 12 mini will be the cheapest option, its screen is too small to appeal to the mass market, and thus the iPhone 12 will come out on top.

What’s important to note is that this year’s iPhone 12 will be $100 more expensive than last year’s iPhone 11, coming in at $799. However, this year’s model not only sports a new design and 5G connectivity, but it will also come with an OLED display for the first time.
