2020 will be a busy year for Apple, at least if Ming-Chi Kuo’s predictions are to be believed.
The reliable Apple analyst has released his latest research note as part of his work with TF International Securities, and it makes for very interesting reading.
Kuo has suggested that the company will start off 2020 with a new iPhone SE 2 – a low-cost smartphone featuring a 4.7-inch LCD display, to appease its price-conscious consumers.
Apple is then expected to release four high-end OLED models in the second half of 2020, including two successors to the iPhone 11, alongside follow-ups to the iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max.
The analyst predicts that all four of the new high-end models will support 5G using Qualcomm’s X55 modem, though Sub-6G-only or Sub-6G-plus-mmWave types will only be available in countries where the technology is rolling out.
Models supporting mmWave will be made available in countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Korea, and Japan, and Apple will disable Sub-6G functionality in markets where 5G is yet to be released, or where 5G is only beginning to roll out.
This is expected to reduce production costs and help Apple increase profits.
Earlier in the week, JPMorgan analyst Samik Chatterjee also suggested that Apple would release four high-end smartphones in 2020, all sporting a new design based on the iPhone 4 with a stunning new metal frame, which would offer flatter edges than the current design.
If these rumors are to be believed, we can expect to see a low-cost iPhone SE 2 in the Spring, measuring in at 4.7-inches with a single-lens camera and no support for 5G.
Later in the year, we’ll see two iPhone 12s – a smaller 5.4-inch and a larger 6.1-inch, both with OLED displays, dual-lens rear cameras and 5G support. They’ll be sold alongside an iPhone 12 Pro, with a triple-lens rear camera, and a 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max.
