Moana Could Beat Frozen’s Thanksgiving Box Office Record

Disney’s new Polynesia-based animated adventure Moana could smash the record previously set by the company’s Frozen for US box office takings over the five-day Thanksgiving holiday period.

Moana, which follows young girl Moana, voiced by Hawaiian actress Auli’I Cravalho, as she pursues a sea voyage with the help of the Dwayne Johnson-voiced demigod Maui, is forecast to amass $88m across the five days, reports the Guardian. Some pundits have even suggested it could pass $93.4m…

That would beat the Thanksgiving revenues of Disney’s own musical film Frozen in 2013 – an achievement that doesn’t seem entirely beyond Moana considering the huge critical acclaim it has attracted. It currently holds a rating of 97% on the reviews aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes.

If you are among the many people excited by Moana, then you could also check out Illumination Entertainment’s The Secret Life of Pets. This animated tale, which we have a good look at in the new AppleMagazine issue released earlier today, was recently added to the iTunes Store.
