More details emerge on new 16-inch MacBook Pro

Fresh rumors have offered new insights into the new 16-inch MacBook Pro.

According to Digitimes, Apple has asked Quanta to manufacture the new device, which will come with smaller bezels to accommodate a stunning new 16-inch LCD display in ‘the same body’ as the current 15-inch model, suggesting that the latter will be discontinued soon.

It’s expected that the device will offer a 3072×1920 resolution, and because of the narrower bezels, the chassis of the model will be equivalent to the current 15-inch MacBook Pro, meaning it will retain its portability and perhaps compatibility with existing 15-inch cases.

Apple will reportedly drop the new device in September, although it’s important to note that Digitimes does not have the best track record when it comes to Apple rumors and leaks.

Others have suggested that the device will appear in October, or even November as Apple often hosts an end-of-year keynote to show off new iPads and other devices, post-iPhone.

It’s widely reported that Apple will drop the iPhone 11 and new Apple Watch in September, and with the company also set to lift the lid on Apple TV+ and Apple Arcade in the same time frame, perhaps introducing new iPads and MacBooks would be too much for one event.

Last year, Apple used its September event to show off new iPhones and iPads and followed it up a month later with an October event, unleashing new iPads, MacBooks, and Mac minis.

Alongside the new larger display and slimmer bezels, Apple is expected to introduce its new butterfly keyboard replacement into the 16-inch device, and other tweaks such as a physical Escape key and more USB-C ports are also rumored, though unconfirmed at this time.
