August 31, 2021 saw the release of the direct-to-video (which includes a simultaneous digital and home release, i.e., no theatrical release) release of Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms, the next animated movie set within the expanded world of Mortal Kombat. Directed by Ethan Spaulding from a screenplay by Jeremy Adams, Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms features a colorful cast of Mortal Kombat characters, both heroes and villains alike. Thus, if you scroll through the movie’s trailer and the movie itself, you’ll encounter well-known faces such as Shang Tsung (Artt Butler), Sonya Blade (Jennifer Carpenter), Kitana (Grey Griffin), Kung Lao (Matthew Yang King), Sub-Zero (Bayardo De Murguia), Johnny Cage (Joel McHale), Raiden (Dave B. Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms

The story of the movie is actually a direct sequel to Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge, set almost a year after the events of the movie. After the defeat of the outside world in the Mortal Kombat tournament, the powerful emperor Shao Kahn decides to take this matter in his own hands and for this, he gathers his best commanders, while in the kingdom of Earth the god of thunder Raiden tries to complete the training of Liu Kang, while simultaneously gathering all the best fighters on Earth to fight in the inevitable conflict.

As far as the reactions are concerned, the reviews for Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms seem to be pretty solid.
